Scientist of NUCDU took part in an international online seminar

On October 6-8, 2020, under the auspices of the United States Department of State, the US National Academy of Sciences, and the CRDF Global International Civil Defense Expert Coordination Platform, an online workshop was held to promote collaboration between policymakers, law enforcement, and technical experts in responding to use of weapons of mass destruction ("Facilitating Communication Between Policymakers, Law Enforcement, and Technical Experts in Response to State-based WMD"). Maksym Kustov, Deputy Head of the Department of Special Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the National University of Civil Defence of Ukraine, took an active part in the event.

During the seminar, representatives from 15 countries exchanged experiences in preventing and responding to emergencies with radiation and chemical hazards. Experts from the US National Academy of Sciences spoke about the main threats to the use of weapons of mass destruction. Representatives of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation reported on methods of investigating cases of terrorist use of radiation and chemically hazardous substances. Experts from the US State Department spoke about US international measures to prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction. At the end of the event, an interactive team-business game was held to respond to mass poisoning by an unknown chemical.
